Ensemble for New Music Tallinn at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival

Winners of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Ensemble Prize 2026, ENMT has earned an international reputation for its adventurous programming and commitment to new music. For this special project, the ensemble is joined by torupill player Katariin Raska, exploring how an instrument rooted in Estonia’s rural and medieval traditions can open new possibilities within contemporary composition.

The programme brings together composers from across Europe and North America, each with a wildly different approach and musical language. New works by William Dougherty, Justina Repečkaitė, Liisa Hirsch and conductor-composer Arash Yazdani sit alongside Pasquale Corrado’s Ozone, creating a rich and varied landscape of sounds and ideas.

Across the programme, the torupill emerges not as a historical curiosity but as a living, expressive instrument whose distinctive timbre and microtonal possibilities inspire fresh musical encounters. The result is a concert that connects tradition and experimentation, local heritage and international contemporary practice.
